Victoria Kennefick is a native of Shanagarry, Co. Cork. A Fulbright scholar, she received her PhD in English Literature from University College Cork in 2009. Her debut poetry pamphlet, White Whale (Southword Editions, 2015), won the Munster Literature Centre Fool for Poetry Chapbook Competition and the Saboteur Award for Best Poetry Pamphlet 2015. In 2013 her poem, "Haruspex," won the Red Line Book Festival Poetry Prize. Her manuscript was shortlisted for the Melita Hume Poetry Prize for Unpublished First Collection in 2014. Poems have appeared in an number of publications in print and online since 2012, these include: Poetry, The Stinging Fly, New Irish Writing in The Irish Times, Bare Fiction, The Penny Dreadful, And Other Poems, The Irish Examiner, The Malpaís Review, and Southword. Two poems featured in a special edition of Poetry Ireland Review (April 2016) entitled The Rising Generation, and her poem, "Cork Schoolgirl Considers the GPO O’Connell Street, Dublin 2016" was a poster poem on the DART. Poems appear or are forthcoming in the following anthologies: Best New British and Irish Poets (Eyewear Publications), The Emma Press Anthology of Mildly Erotic Verse Volume 2, The Poet’s Quest for God (Eyewear Publications), Wings of Glass (Second Light Publications), and #2PoetryAnthology (Vanguard).
