Malika Booker

Malika Booker is a British writer, poet, and multi-disciplinary artist of Guyanese and Grenadian Parentage. She is the founder of Malika's Poetry Kitchen, a writer’s collective for beginning and emerging poets in London. She has represented British writing internationally, both independently and with The British Council in: Slovenia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Russia, and Azerbaijan and was Hampton Court Palace’s Writer in Residence in 2004. She is a Cave Canem Fellow and was inaugural Poet in Residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her poetry collection Pepper Seed (Peepal Tree Press in 2013) was long-listed for the OCM Bocas 2014 prize and shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney Centre prize for first full collection 2014. Malika is the Douglas Caster Cultural Fellow in Creative Writing at University of Leeds where she is working on her next poetry collection and theatre show. [Photo: Siro Micheroli]
